The Annual Liam Ryan Memorial Hurlaton took place last Saturday 11th October, in the Kilkenny Sports Arena, Wallslough. The aim was to have a continuous hurling/Camogie match which lasted for 8 hours; in order to achieve this all Clara teams had the opportunity to play for an hour or so. This event has become an important fundraiser for the club over the last few years. We have been very lucky in Clara having had the Liam McCarthy with us at this event 3 out of the last 4 years thanks to very one who make this possible. Well done to the event organizers Gerry Farrell and Theresa Aylward and all their committee for the brilliant job they did. Big thanks also goes to all the players and parents who make this a successful event every year.
Thank you for your support – Clara GAA, Bord Na nÓg & Camogie Club

60th Anniversary Celebrations: Last Friday evening Clara GAA Club celebrated its 60th Anniversary and it brought the young and not so young from around the community and further a field together. The evening started with some activities for everyone to enjoy with a dunking machine, face painting, obstacle course, skills area, archery, crossbar challenge for both hurling and football some of the highlights. Along with the 60th celebrations the club took the chance to unveil the new facilities that has been under construction for the last few months. The new walkway around the grounds got its first official users when all the winning captains from Hurling, Football, Camogie did the 1km lap holding the 2012 Olympic torch. The upgrades to the club house were on show with many people enjoying the tour down memory lane. Which made way to debates on who played in different matches, like who played in the 69 junior final and where some of those players are now. Or was I part of that team as they looked at themselves in a photo. Or for one person not knowing his wife in a photo taking a few years ago. While all of the these activities were going on there was a BBQ for everyone to enjoy and tea/coffee or something else to wash it down from the new shop. That wasn't all that went on during the night, before the live music started players from the 1986, 2013 Senior county final winning teams and the 2007 Camogie Junior winning team were challenged to a skills competition of which no winner could be decided on. The night was finished of with some great music by Loose Cannons. Thanks to The Field Bar and Restaurant for the sponsorship of the band. Big thanks also goes to the event committee lead by Carmel Brennan and Eamon Rafter for the hard work put in before, during and after the event. The biggest thanks goes to the community of Clara for the help and support during the last 60 memorable years and with your help the next 60 years will be successful both on and off the field.
